Cmielow figures and sculptures
The factory suffered a catastrophic fire and fell into disuse for something like 40 years but has recently been revitalised and is now again in production. Original moulds have been salvaged from the factory and are again in use to produce these captivating and unique figures. Restoration work is still going on to repair many of the moulds that have been damaged over the years and so the range is likely to continue to increase as this work continues. Many of the original workers have been traced and are now training a new generation in the art of porcelain firing and painting.
The original designs were inspired by modern artists including Henry Moore and Picasso and the sculptors who produced the first moulds were exceptionally talented. Many have since become extremely well know and include Naruszewicz, Orthwein, Jedrasiak and Lubomir Tomaszewski. Original pieces from the 50s or 60s do occasionally come onto the market and command very good prices.
Birds and animals are popular subjects for Cmielow designs which makes them especially suitable gifts for many occasions. Relaxing cats and delightful dogs are hard to resist by any pet owner! They are particularly often chosen as house warming presents or more sadly when a friend has suffered the loss of loved pet.
